I am interested in radically altered places.
An abandoned Detroit train station, a post-Hurricane Katrina neighborhood, and a playground on the site of the Berlin Wall -- these are some of the sites I have referenced in my paintings. The buried history resounds in the walls and the grounds of these locations: histories rife with the tension of life, death and power struggles. Like shadow to light, memory hides under the present moment. Inhabiting the gap between abstraction and representation, my paintings attempt to coax this memory to the surface.
